CRPRA Newsletter - Reflections - Cedar Rapids Public Relations Associates

In this issue:

  • Register today for the October 13 meeting, when we'll learn more about the exciting plans for the NewBo City Market!

  • If you missed the September meeting with Nick Ireland from Premier Guitar, you missed a good one -- but we've captured the highlights for you below in the Last Meeting Recap.

“Pumping New Life into an Old Neighborhood: The NewBo City Market”
with Sarah Ordover, Board President, Cedar Rapids City Market, Inc.

Permanent public markets around the country draw thousands of people not just to shop, but to “meet, greet and – of course – eat.” Seattle and Boston have them. So do countless smaller metro areas. Why not a year-round city market in the heart of a rebuilt Cedar Rapids? Sarah Ordover, who is leading the charge to create an indoor-outdoor market in the reenergized New Bohemia neighborhood, will provide a colorful look at the plans for an exciting venture that is expected to attract young workers, generate small business opportunities, revitalize a flood-devastated area, and draw tourists to Cedar Rapids. For the rest of us, it'll offer a great new dining and entertainment venue.

About the presenter: Sarah Ordover formed and is the Board President of Cedar Rapids City Market Inc., the non-profit organization that is driving the creation of the NewBo City Market. A native New Yorker, Ordover moved to Iowa in 1989 as President of TelecomUSA Information Resources. She has worked in technology development and online marketing for companies as diverse as American Express, Ford Motor Company and Bloomingdales. Currently she is the Eastern Iowa franchise owner for Unishippers, the leading national reseller of transportation services.

 Nick Ireland - Premier Guitar
        by Sher Jasperse

September 2011 - “Strumming Their Way to Success

With its roots in a fading print publication, Premier Guitar was purchased by local musician and entrepreneur Peter Sprague in 2007 and has since grown into a media empire built by guitarists for guitarists and guitar collectors. At our fall kick-off meeting, Premier's Marketing Manager, Nick Ireland, shared the story of this multi-platform enterprise that currently boasts a total audience of 800,000 engaged readers and viewers for its print and digital magazines, website and mobile website, and social media channels. The Marion-based company, which found its niche by focusing on guitar gear and the gear of well-known artists, is committed to providing objective reviews and content
for its readers while creating a host of opportunities for its advertisers.

Ireland highlighted the following tools and approaches that have helped propel Premier Guitar to stratospheric success:

  • Keep content king – otherwise it's all smoke and mirrors.
  • Reach readers where they work and play through multiple platforms.
  • Use video content as a catalyst.
  • Develop e-mail marketing products – such as Premier's “Backstage Pass” for select subscribers.
  • Provide marketing services and reader research for advertising clients.
  • Offer link-outs to Premier Guitar on other websites.
  • Provide custom digital publishing for manufacturers and trade shows.
  • Remember that it’s all about people and trust, keeping work ethic and integrity foremost.

Donate a door prize - Get free face time!

Our September guest speaker, Nick Ireland from Premier Guitar, sure knows the power of free items. He lavished us with magazines, guitar picks, stickers and more.

Be cool like Nick. Bring a door prize from your business to the next meeting! Having door prizes makes our meetings even more enjoyable and your business or organization receives great exposure when you stand up to briefly explain your prize donation.

Door prizes can be any items such as coffee mugs, notebooks, candles and food items, or anything related to your business or organization that you would like to share.

We’ll draw names from those attending, hand out the door prizes and spotlight the businesses and individuals who donated. It’s a win-win situation for everyone!

To donate an item, please contact any CRPRA steering committee member when you arrive at a meeting.

Thank you for helping to make each CRPRA meeting a fun event!
