“How Do You Want To Be Remembered?” - with Kent Stock
Focused on living life fully each day, Kent’s story is a testimony to the power of following your dreams. Many doors in his life have been closed, but the next door has always led to something greater. A risk taker and a natural leader, Kent strives to excel and inspire others to do the same. His magical story will motivate you to consider the question, “How do you want to be remembered?”
About the speaker: A teacher, coach, middle school principal, banker and speaker, Kent Stock is the man who coached the Norway baseball team during its now-famous final season. As depicted in the 2007 film, The Final Season, the nationally recognized Norway baseball team came together under then first-year head baseball coach Stock to defy the odds and win Norway’s 20th state title in what would become the team’s final season before merging with a neighboring school district. Kent recently released a book, Heading for Home: My Journey from Little League to Hollywood, sharing his life’s journey and the behind-the-scenes stories of filming a movie.

October 2011 - “Growing the NewBo City Market”
“Come to Shop. Prepare to Linger.” That’s the theme for the NewBo City Market – the permanent indoor-outdoor city market that will soon take shape in the heart of Cedar Rapids' reenergized New Bohemia neighborhood.
At our October meeting, Sara Ordover, Board President of Cedar Rapids City Market Inc., shared the story of the evolving NewBo Market, patterned after long-time city markets in many other communities.
Unlike farmers' markets, city markets feature indoor spaces with amenities such as electricity, allowing for a broad range of consumables including fresh meats and cheeses, ice cream and fresh brewed coffee. Along with a variety of locally produced goods, city markets also offer places for community and gathering — a major goal of the NewBo City Market.
In addition to 21,000 square feet of indoor market space, the new market will feature outdoor spaces for existing farmers’ market vendors, a children’s play area, and a market square for events and activities. With a $3 million fundraising campaign well underway, the hope is to see the NewBo Market become a reality next summer. Hope to see you there!
