October meeting
topic: "How to Keep from Becoming a Marketing Dinosaur"
Henry Russell
Bruce Vice President/Executive Creative Director/Partner Steve
Erickson provided an entertaining and insightful look at the past,
present and future of advertising at our October meeting, where he
asked the pointed question: "Are you still relevant?"
The world of
typewriters, exacto knives and keylines - as well as the role of the
exclusive local ad man - has been replaced by computers, digital
technology and global information and supply networks. Projects that
took weeks to complete in the past now take days, making it more
difficult to become truly engaged with our clients and their
challenges.
Steve urged us to
remember the value of personal relationships and pursue our work
with passion, connectedness to resources, burning curiosity, and the
"wow" ideas that our clients can't come up with on their own. And if
we hope to remain creative, we'd better be having fun while we're
working our tails off.
